Member of the Month – Anne Mandal

Congratulations Anne on being selected as The Chatham Club Member of the Month for August!

What brought you to The Chatham Club? When I moved from England, I was looking for somewhere to play squash and The Chatham Club had courts and a ladies’ round robin to play in. It is also just 4 miles from my home. An added bonus!

What accomplishments or changes have you made since joining The Chatham Club? I have played squash with a lot of people with different skill levels, played in several tournaments and in the Northern New Jersey Squash Racquets Association leagues, made a lot of friends and had a lot of fun while doing so. I have added weight training to my routine in order to be able to continue to play squash, ward off osteoporosis and live an active life for as long as I can.

What do you like about the club? You are always greeted with a lovely smile and a cheerful “Hello” and the club has a very nice atmosphere. The staff and fellow members are very friendly. There is a great choice of equipment that you can use and lots of classes to join. It is well run and is always very clean and well maintained. The ladies’ changing room is beautiful with lovely music playing all the time.

What do you like about the squash community at the club? And what do you like about the squash amenities that the club offers? Everyone is very friendly and supportive. And there is great banter! The squash courts are beautiful (with proper walls), and repairs are made when needed.

What are your favorite exercises? Squash!!

What are your least favorite exercises? The Reverse Fly Machine.

What do you like to do outside of the club? I love to garden, hike, take pictures and ride my bike. We like to go on vacations to National Parks; many of them will have a 10,000+ ft mountain peak that we will hike up to the top of. We also like to travel to Europe.

Do you have any upcoming goals that you’re currently focusing on? I just want to keep as fit and healthy as I can, so I can enjoy the rest of my life and not be a burden to my family.
