Paul is approaching eight years as a member of The Chatham Club and has become a staple of the early afternoon crowd. Paul first entered The Chatham Club while doing physical therapy at Professional Physical Therapy in our building. When he finished his rehab, he followed through on our club’s free month offer for finishing therapy, and he’s been with us ever since. During his time with us, Paul has lost 25-30 pounds and maintained a healthy weight. He inspires us and is a valued member of our community at The Chatham Club.
What is your weekly routine?
I make it a point to get here 5-6 days a week, and occasionally, I’ll even get a seventh day in. Since I deal with arthritis in my back, I use the recumbent bike daily as a cardio workout. I do a variation of 4 or 5 different machines daily to hit different muscle groups each day and each muscle group 2 or 3 times a week. I enjoy the variety of the workouts. I’ll put in about an hour here each day.
What are your favorite things about the club?
I love the atmosphere here. It has that “Cheers” feeling when you walk in. All the staff knows your name and makes you feel at home. It’s such a comfortable feeling. The training staff are very accommodating, helping with exercises or answering questions. They are very conscientious about the advice they give me based on my age and ability. That is very valuable to the senior population. All the members I encounter are very friendly, too. It’s great for the social aspect and my mental aspect. I just love it here.
Do you have any favorite exercises?
I enjoy all my exercises, so none stands out as my favorite. I like doing them all because they keep me strong and active.
What do you enjoy doing outside of the club?
I’ve been a Chatham Township Zoning Board member for the past year, and I enjoy visiting sites and doing our job. I also enjoy spending time with family, being active in the community, and attending church.
What fitness goals do you have?
To keep doing what I’m doing!
