The Members of the Month for January are Steve and Geri Mercer. Steve and Geri have been members of The Chatham Club for over 25 years. Steve was looking for another sport to play as he transitioned away from playing basketball, and Geri was looking for something convenient and close to home that was on her way to work. The Chatham Club filled both their needs. Steve came here and took up Squash, and Geri came and began her strength and fitness journey.

What do you like most about the club?
Geri:  I love the personable staff, the accommodating hours, the many different areas to workout, and the helpful training staff. Also, the club is always immaculate!
Steve:  It’s a great facility with good personnel. I love the camaraderie I have with my squash friends.

What accomplishments have you had since joining?
Geri:  I have become stronger and began my running career here. I have done at least 15 road races since joining and taking up running.
Steve: I set out to pick up the new game of Squash. I loved learning the new game and how much fun it is.

What do you enjoy about Personal Training?
Geri:  I began training with Amanda about 20 years ago after Steve bought me a gift certificate. I immediately enjoyed the addition of personal training to my routine. After Amanda left for her PT job, I began training with Dennis roughly ten years ago. What I like the most is how it pushes me past the limits that I didn’t think I was capable of. The workouts are creative and adventurous!

What do you enjoy most about playing Squash?
Steve: I like that it’s exercise without feeling like exercise. It’s a great workout but great fun to play. I enjoy working on and improving my game. I’ve also met some of my best friends through playing Squash here.

What are your favorite exercises/activities here?
Geri:  I enjoy running and cycling the best.
Steve:  The sauna after Squash!

What are your least favorite exercises?
Geri: My least favorite is mountain climbers.
Steve:  I would have to say wall sits.

What do you enjoy doing outside of the club?
Geri: I love cooking, running, and cycling. Chicken Milanese is my specialty dish!
Steve:  I enjoy traveling, reading, and socializing.

Are there any upcoming goals?
Geri:  Just continue to get stronger. Also, prepare for our trip to Australia for the Australian Open.
Steve: To maintain my fitness level and continue to enjoy fitness.
