MOTIVATE ME

Let’s be real. Sometimes it is hard to get motivated to go to the gym – we have all been there before.  Your group class or own workout is likely the first thing to get cut from your to-do list when your life gets busy.  We are constantly on the go and don’t take time to care for ourselves.

It is essential for our health and sanity that we find that time – if you don’t, you will eventually run out of steam. Taking that hour to work out at the gym will increase your happiness and reduce stress.  How do we break through all the chaos in our lives and etch out a little time for ourselves?  Here are some tips to fit the gym into your busy schedule.

  1. Get up and GO!  Many people find the best time to exercise is first thing in the morning. Get up before the kids, grab your coffee, and head to the gym.  Before the kids even have to get up, you’ll be back home!
  2. Make a plan and follow it. Try looking at your workouts as an appointment you cannot miss.  Like any other appointment, you have during your day, schedule time to get to the gym.  Set alarms on your phone or write your workout on your calendar.
  3. Meet a friend for your workout. When you’re alone, hitting the snooze button is simple, but leaving a friend waiting for you is far more difficult. Finding a friend to work out with is beneficial to both of you. You are more likely to encourage and push one another.
  4. Set your vibes up.  It is important to stay motivated while you are at the gym. Make sure you have a playlist of music that will keep you wanting to move, or maybe listen to that podcast everyone’s talking about. Choose songs that maximize your mood to get the most out of your workout.
  5. Keep notes. Keep a little journal and write down how you feel after each workout.  On the days when you feel you are struggling to go to the gym, you get inspiration from your thoughts. It is also a good way to see which workouts make you feel better than others.
