Read on to learn more about Maya’s experiences, favorite workouts, and her journey to staying strong and injury-free.
What sport do you play? Where? What position?
I run cross country for Morris Tech and winter and spring track for Madison High School.
What is your favorite thing about your team, sport or school?
I love how close knit and kind the running community is. I have the best cross country teammates and I don’t think I have ever had a race where a girl from a different team didn’t come up to me after to say congrats. Even when you have a bad race, the runner girls always reach out to make you feel better.
Why do you enjoy training with Doug? How long have you trained with him?
I enjoy training with Doug because I can feel myself getting stronger each session. I also like how I am challenged just enough, and how he always pays attention to how I am feeling, my soreness, etc. I have been training with Doug since August of this past summer.
What are your favorite exercises?
My favorite exercises are lunges with weights, squat jumps, and dead bugs.
What are your least favorite exercises?
My least favorite exercises are lateral raises, planks, and dumbbell rows.
Have you seen any improvements in strength/agility/speed thanks to your training?
I have seen lots of improvements in my strength throughout my season. I also have not had any injury scares or injuries since I started training with Doug. I’m hoping that continues through the rest of the year!
What are some of your upcoming goals?
In my track seasons this year I hope to make the all-state teams, win counties again, make nationals, and have fun!
Thank you, Maya! We look forward to cheering for you on the track!
